Poker is a card game where players compete with each other. The goal of the game is to form the best poker hand possible and win the pot by betting until all other players have been eliminated. If the game ends in a draw, the pot is divided equally between the remaining players. There are a variety of different ways to play poker.
In poker, a hand consists of two pairs of cards plus one wild card. If more than one person has a five-of-a-kind hand, the higher card wins the hand. In some games, a pair of aces is the lowest hand. However, in many variations of the game, an ace can be the lowest card.
The dealer is the person responsible for dealing each hand. In casual play, this person rotates between the players. In a live poker game, the dealer button is a small disk, usually white. It designates the dealer and determines the betting order. When a hand ends in a tie, the dealer takes the final decision.
Poker is played with as many players as you want, although six to eight is ideal. The total amount bet by the players in a single deal is called the “pot.” The highest-ranking hand wins the pot.
